Payment of $20 is due by the first of the month. If you are not paid when the pool starts you are automatically suspended. This means if your assigned celebrity dies and you are not paid at the time, you are not eligible to win. If you do decide to pay afterwards, you will be assigned a new celebrity for that month.
Every month each player will be assigned, at random, a celebrity that is 75 years old or older. If your celebrity is the first to die in that month you win 80% of the prize pool. The other 20% will go to the second death of the month, on a later date, for second place. If it is found that two celebrities died the same day, players will split the 80% prize for First Place and Second Place will still be in play for 20%.
The list is sent out on the last day of the month at 6:00pm which will start at midnight of the 1st of each month. Should there be no celebrity deaths during the month, all players will pay another $20 again and the pool will double. This rule is in effect for First and Second Places. Should we have a winner for First Place but no winner for Second Place in the first month, only the second place prize pool would double. This will go on each month until we announce a winner. Once a winner is announced, the pool is closed for that month and we will start again the following month.
In the case that we don't have a winner and we start a new month, should a celebrity's death be announced in the new month but happened to die the previous month, whoever had that celebrity would be announced the winner for the previous month and would be assigned a new celebrity for the current month. Ex: No one wins in the month of March so we ante up and start a new pool April 1st. On April 3rd it’s announced that Bill Clinton died, but he died on March 30th. The player who had Bill Clinton for the month of March would win the single pool and would be assigned a new player for April. We would continue at that point with a one month payout.
Winners are paid 4 days after we announce a winner. It is common that the families of celebrities wait a few days before notifying the press about the celebrities death. The 4 day waiting period rule is to ensure that all deaths have been announced. Once someone is paid the pool is over regardless of if a celebrity death is announced afterward but found out they died before the winner’s celebrity. Ex: It is announced that Bill Clinton died on March 15th. The winner will be paid on March 19th. On March 20th, we learn that Liza Manelli died on March 14th but since it wasn’t announced until after we had already paid out, the original winner still keeps their money. My decision is always final.
I try to keep current with the list as best as I can but ultimately it is each player’s responsibility to check on their celebrity. When I announce a winner, it would behoove you to google your celebrity to make sure they are still alive.
